EVOLUTE! An idea…

on

diffused light over a scene beside Christmas Creek near the border of QLD and NSW, a stop on my Journey to Beautiful that lead to pictures for Coffee and Colouring In for Grown UpsEvolute is a mathematical term and a spiritual one it seems from my reading about it. It is when there is a shape that is created by lines from the points on a curved shape. A dot at the centre of a circle. A process for finding centres….and then it was there in a writing based on the Vedas about yoga and sense of self in the world.

I am still trying to get my head around it but it is like the centre of the sparkle that stops at the circle when we join up the points. It is the series of points inside an ellipse and well, google it cos it is really quite cool. There is a design company that has apps to help customers make net shapes from regular ones and design beautiful curves. Oh and it is used by a health care company for online support for Diabetes.

For me that word has been floating around since I did a workshop, must be nearly three years ago, with an artist about gluing things and creating translucence and I found it on the page of an old dictionary I tore an ‘E’ page from. Something about the word just touched me. It is about the relationship between what is seen with what it can be with the use of lines of light, the inner relationship to the outer. That thing that happens when the curve of a bubble’s surface holds all the light images of the world around it and the shapes change then when you look out at the world from its surface. Not sure which is the truest rendering of reality but it is as it is….wonder!

So the word has come up again as a friend and I have been discussing a workshop we want to facilitate on her land. The experience of being that will support the living in the world without. Offering our experience of touching that place and ways for the participants to begin to find their own keys to the portal of peaceful being. My friend wanted to give it a name and this word, EVOLUTE,  became a big sparkle in my mind. It is more that i can explain it with words to be, there are mathematical formulas and long papers about spiritual reality depending on which side of hope you consider life from.

The idea that an outer form impacts the points of centre within a shape is equally as alluring as the idea that the points of centre within create the lines of the shape without. Both I would suggest are valid ways of viewing life depending upon how you hold your relationship with your current reality. It is in fact the debate between nature and nurture. The idea of perceiving self through a filter and using that filter to determine how you might be perceived, that is often found in psychology. It is the medical model of looking for symptoms to realign points of centre within the body and thus allow the patient vitality. Even marketing is pilled with the notion of projecting the image that people may want so they will change their internal centres to create the need for the product. The sectors which follow the principal in one direction or another are countless.

In my world it is the shape inside the shape. Perhaps the reason I have intuitively drawing and painting of circles inside circles that keep coming back to a point in the centre. The point in the centre that may be desire that is creates a form on the outside of the shape. So many images and references…. it is quite something. Obviously for me creating is one place I get to experience the point of centred quiet that allows the rest to be created from.

We always hope that the point of ‘centredness’ will create the shape of life we would want to see about ourselves. The source of our light that we use to find our way through life. There is a belief that if we truly know our centred space then we will project our truest self to the world. Maybe this is so but I suspect it is more complicated then that as the ‘world’ around us impacts upon our image. Perhaps, the point of it all is that we have a wonderful and self-respecting way of approaching life that we feel strong and able to do so. And at the end of each day that we would sit and be still, finding a new for the moment the still quiet point of being without the impact of judgement.

it is a big idea that needs to grow inside me and find it’s words. It has its pictures. But then….life is like that. It is all that it needs to be today and will be. Life is a gift and I get to live it!

Happy Day

Sandy.
