The other night I babysat my grand-daughter then drove home near midnight to remember that the next day was a last day for many of my colleagues for the school year and I hadn’t organised the something that I needed to give them. The dilemma of whether to give or not is another conversation. This year I actually had a plan but I thought I had another day. But no!

So at midnight I sat to write some words to go with a little piece of the planet that a man at a market had lovingly gathered and polished to make special. The words that follow are those words. The gift of life we get to have but complicate by trying to make into something that matters or not. If you consider what has transpired so that I look and sound like I do right now. If you consider the events that have taken place in the years our memories and the cause and effect that is now…it is all rather miraculous and should cause wonder. We are special aspects of the experience of existence, so special nothing and no one exists just as we do.

It is about remembering! It is about gratitude and kindness. It is as it is. So this is what I wrote and put on the back of a picture I created that I love and understand in so many ways:

On the days you wonder why you are here, this is a reminder that 13.5 million years ago you began as a part of a big bang in a vacuum that expanded through all time and space and became light and dark, day and night, stars, moons, planets and all manner of things. Somehow in the midst of all the particles and expansion life began on a chunk of rock that orbits a sun in a galaxy far from any other. A galaxy full of universes and wonder, so that you would be here today to hold this part of our planet in the stars and say the words you say, smile at someone and change life as we know it by being!

When you wonder why some days, hold a little rock and remember life is a gift and you get to live it. Make a wish then smile
